DOWNTOWN — Chicago is poised for its first wintry weekend this season.

The weekend forecast calls for snow, lots of clouds and chillier-than-usual temperatures, said AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines.

Saturday's high temperature will only reach the upper 30s, and clouds will linger throughout the day, Kines said. Temperatures are expected to fall to the mid- or upper 20s during the night.

Sunday will be even worse: Snowfall is expected, and some parts of the city could get up to half-inch, Kines said. It shouldn't accumulate, though, and the only time there might be problems on the roads is if it snows early, he said.

It could also start raining later in the day, Kines said.

"Something to keep in the back of your mind: We're getting to that time of year when the pattern does start to turn stormier. You [have] got to keep a heads-up," Kines said.

Normal high temperatures are about 40 degrees this time of year, Kines said, so this weekend's temperatures are colder than usual.

Kines said he isn't expecting a bad snowstorm in Chicago's near future, though the first half of next week could be stormier than usual. If there is any precipitation, it'll probably come as rain instead of snow, he said.
