Annual Christmas Bazaar Returns To Andersonville This Weekend

ANDERSONVILLE — The annual Julmarknad festival returns with traditional Swedish handicrafts, food and entertainment, along with free music and deals at local businesses this weekend.

From 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark St., invites residents to its annual Christmas Bazaar to purchase traditional handicrafts, participate in craft-making, play games and visit Santa, according to the museum's website.

Saturday Schedule:

• At 11:30 a.m.: Lucia procession with the Merula Choir

• At 12:30 p.m.: Swedish dance instruction

• At 1:30 p.m.: a performance from the Chicago Swedish Male Choir

• At 3 p.m.: a performance by the Andersonville Suzuki Academy's Violin Ensemble

Sunday Schedule:

• At 12 p.m: Lucia procession with Svenska Skolan

• At 1:30 p.m.: a performance by Nordic Folkdancers

• At 2:45 p.m.: a performance by Chicago Spelmanslag

At 12 p.m. Sunday, Women and Children First bookstore, 5233 N. Clark St., will host a special reading of " The Christmas Truck" with author J.B. Blakenship featuring a meet-and-greet with the reading dogs from Sit Stay Read. The bookstore will also be hosting a holiday book drive.

There is a $2 suggested donation for all visitors, according to the museum's website.

All weekend long, Appellation, Pastoral, Candyality and Notice will also be offering special deals and events to celebrate the holidays.

Appellation, 5212 N. Clark St., will be offering the Swedish-inspired cocktail, the "Aquavit Manhattan" for $10 and a Swedish cheese plate for $12.79.

Pastoral, 5212 N. Clark St., will offer 15 percent of select Swedish products and the retail store will feature a special Swedish ham and cheese sandwich.

Candyality, 5225 N. Clark St., will be giving away a free pound of gummy bears with any purchase of $25 or more, while supplies last.

Notice, 5028 N. Clark St., will host a "wrap yourself for the holidays" event featuring scarves and mufflers "from designers near and far."
