CHICAGO — Officials are investigating three fires that damaged buildings in Belmont Cragin on Thursday morning, police said.

At 3:10 a.m., Chicago Police and Fire responded to a call of a fire in the 4900 block of West Wellington, police said. The fire started in a trash can and spread to a garage, damaging the garage's exterior before being put out by firefighters.

Just 10 minutes later, at 3:20 a.m., officials were called to a fire in the 3100 block of North Lamon, police said. That fire damaged a garage and residential building, displacing eight people but injuring none. That fire also appeared to have started in a garbage can before spreading to the buildings, police said.

A third fire at 5:10 a.m. started in a garbage can in an alley in the 4900 block of West Melrose and spread to a garage, damaging the exterior of the building, police said.

Investigators were looking into the possibility of the fires being connected, a police source said.
