WEST RIDGE — Three men who attempted to rob a convenience store before two were shot and injured by the store clerk Sunday have been charged with felonies, according to police.
Stephon Kinchen, 18, Anthony Simpkins-McDonald, 21, and Neil Thomas, 24, were each charged with two felony counts of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
Bond for Thomas and Kinchen was set at $900,000 and $250,000 for Simpkins-McDonald.
Around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night, at least two of the armed men entered a West Ridge store in the 7400 block of North Western Avenue and announced a robbery.
Their efforts were thwarted by a 21-year-old store employee with a concealed carry permit who shot one of the men in his right forearm and the other in his right shoulder.
Both were taken to different nearby hospitals where their conditions were reported by police as "stable."
Police arrested the two robbers as well as the third accomplice shortly after, the department said.
The employee suffered minor injuries during the confrontation and was treated at the scene, police said.
All three reside in the neighborhood — Kinchen is of the 7300 block of North Damen Avenue, while Thomas and Simpkins-McDonald live in the 7500 block of North Winchester.
Simpkins-McDonald was arrested at a residential address in the 7500 block of North Damen Avenue in April on theft and battery charges, according to police records.
