JEFFERSON PARK — Evening commuters at the Jefferson Park Transit Center can expect a burst of holiday warmth from their neighbors as they exit the train Thursday, thanks to the neighborhood's fifth annual "Holiday Sparkle" event organized by Ald. John Arena (45th).

Starting at 5 p.m., volunteers from the community group Jefferson Park Forward will hand out candy canes to passersby at the transit center.

They'll also distribute hot chocolate provided by Gale Street Inn, 4914 N. Milwaukee Ave., and cookies from Fannie's Cafe, 5044 W. Montrose Ave.

Meanwhile, the Schurz High School Choir and Wind Ensemble will be playing carols, and Boy Scout Troop 963 will power on Christmas lights they wrapped around trees near the station, according to organizers.
