WICKER PARK — Schott NYC, a fourth-generation American maker of leather coats and outerwear, will be opening its third United States outpost in Wicker Park this spring.

Tim Glascott with Glascott & Associates, which owns the storefront at 1509 N. Milwaukee Ave, said Tuesday that Schott will be replacing Eskell, a boutique that's relocating to Bucktown at the end of February.

"The Milwaukee Avenue corridor was attractive to them and the style and concept of their brand will fit in well," Tim Glascott said.

If everything goes as planned, Schott, which signed along-term lease, will open sometime in the spring, Glascott said.

A spokeswoman for the Union, New Jersey-based Schott confirmed the spring entry and said that the new store will be Schott's third in the United States, following its flagship New York City shop which opened in 2013 and a Los Angeles outpost that debuted in 2014.

Schott is known for its "Perfecto" motorcycle jacket worn by punk rockers The Ramones, Blondie and other 70s and 80s bands.

In Wicker Park, Schott will be selling American made outerwear, sweaters and shirts, as well as items from multiple partners and other brands that create made in America accessories, footwear, candles and more, the spokeswoman said.

Schott was founded in 1913 by brothers Irving and Jack Schott, who were sons of Russian immigrants. They started with a raincoat factory in the basement of a tenement on Manhattan's Lower East Side and then salesmen sold those jackets door-to-door, according to Schott's website.

Icons James Dean, Marlon Brando and Bruce Springsteen, the latter who wore a Schott jacket on the cover of his "Born to Run" album, were known for wearing the brand's jackets, Vogue reports in a story that asks, "What would the landscape of American badassery look like without Schott?"

Locally, some stores carry Schott jackets, such as U.S. #1 Vintage, 1460 N. Milwaukee Ave., which sells vintage Schott motorcycle jackets, and Alcala's Western Wear, 1733 W. Chicago Ave., which carries Schott down winter coats for women and several of the brand's motorcycle jackets.
