WICKER PARK — Publican Anker, an "anchor" at the southwestern edge of the Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues intersection, is set to open Wednesday, at the same time as The Robey and The Hollander, two boutique hotels on the northwest side of the busy six corners.

Located at 1576 N. Milwaukee Ave., the 91-seat eatery is the newest addition to the Publican brand from One Off Hospitality Group, which described the Anker as a "rendition of the perfect bar room," that "naturally evolved from The Publican Fulton Market’s interpretation of a beer hall."

The menu features seasonal vegetables and bar food in the spirit of The Publican, as well as raw and roasted shellfish and snacks.

"Whether sitting at the bar for a round of German lagers, standing with friends over a bottle of Muscadet and oysters or enjoying a full meal at a spacious booth, Publican Anker is a refuge from the chaos of Milwaukee, Damen and North Avenue," the owners said in a news release.

Eater was the first to share the dinner menu on Tuesday. One Off Hospitality's Paul Kahan said that a main difference between the Fulton Market Publican and the Wicker Park Publican Anker is that the latter concept’s focus is on being a neighborhood tavern.

Fans of Wicker Park resident and professional wrestler Colt Cabana might be excited to see that one of the Anker's drinks is named for the athlete, comedian and podcaster, whose real name is Scott Colton.

The "Colt Cabana" cocktail is made with mezcal, rum, kumquat and lime bitters and costs $10, according to the menu.

Colton was flattered by the cocktail.

"It's fun to be part of the community in more ways than one. Every time I come home from a long trip off the Damen "L" stop and walk past the Publican Anker towards my apartment, I'll look inside and see if anyone's drinking me!" Colton said.

The restaurant's hours are 3:30 p.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Brunch and lunch announcements are expected to follow in early 2017.  For more info, follow the venture at @PublicanAnker on Instagram and Twitter, visit the Publican Anker website, its Facebook page, or call 773-904-1121.
