DOWNTOWN — A 71-year-old man robbed a Loop bank this summer after threatening to shoot its employees, federal prosecutors said.
Marvin McNeeley took more than $2,000 in July from the Chase bank at 35 W. Wacker Drive, prosecutors said in court documents unsealed earlier this month.
McNeeley, who bank employees described as 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-6 and weighing about 300 pounds, pulled the heist after intimidating a bank teller, prosecutors said.
"This is a robbery. I will shoot your friends. Give me the money," McNeeley said
The teller then handed McNeeley $2,120 in cash. A banker told an FBI agent that McNeeley "walked slowly" as he left the branch "as though he almost needed a cane to walk."
McNeeley, of Chicago, was found and charged in August, but the documents were sealed by the court until his arraignment earlier this month. McNeeley then pleaded not guilty to one count of bank robbery by force or violence, which carries up to 20 years in prison.
Chicago lawyer Darryl A. Goldberg, who represents McNeeley, did not have an immediate comment.
