
DOWNTOWN — Authorities charged three men with robbing and stabbing a homeless man on South Michigan Avenue, not far from the Art Institute of Chicago.
At 9:10 p.m. Monday, police officers saw the men beating a 57-year-old man in the 300 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to a Chicago Police news release.
Officers stopped the men and found out they had stolen the homeless man's book bag and stabbed him, police said.
The man had four puncture wounds and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was serious but stabilized, police said.
Francisco Arroyo, 23; Julio Chavez, 22; and Jerry Teran, 22, had been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery, police said. Teran was also charged with resisting a police officer.
The men were expected to appear in court on Thursday.
