CHICAGO — Three Jefferson Park homes have been hit by an intricate burglary scam in which a woman distracts residents while her accomplice makes off with cash and valuables, police said.
In each case, a woman came to the door of an elderly resident and asked for a bucket of hot water "for her baby to wash down something in the home," according to a Sunday community alert.
In two of the three incidents, the resident took the woman into their basement while another person ransacked the home and stole cash, police said.
The burglaries were reported:
• Sept. 30 in the 5100 block of North Monitor Avenue
• Nov. 12 in the 5500 block of North Natchez Avenue
• Nov. 19 in the 5500 block of North Lotus Avenue
Police described the suspect as a thin white woman in her late 30s or early 40s, with a "pock-marked complexion" and short blond hair worn in a ponytail.
During the burglaries, a "heavy-set" white or Hispanic man with short dark hair waited for the woman outside in a two-door silver car, police said.
Police are asking residents to call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
