CHICAGO — Matthew Rodgers, 24, was shot dead in Wicker Park on Sunday, officials said.

At 3 a.m., the man was walking northbound in the 1300 block of North Moorman Street when someone in a red Nissan Pathfinder fired shots and hit him multiple times, police said.

According to a police source, the victim had been at Esso, 1270 N. Milwaukee Ave., and was walking to his car parked around the corner when he was shot.

He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Rodgers, of an unknown home address, was pronounced dead at 3:48 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died of multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

No one was in custody.
