WICKER PARK —  Former DreamWorks animator Jason Porath, author and illustrator of "Rejected Princesses: Tales of History’s Boldest Heroines, Hellions, and Heretics," will make a stop in Wicker Park on Monday night to promote his book.

A question-and-answer session with Porath and book-signing is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. at Volumes Bookcafe, 1474 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park.

The event is free and open to the public, according to a Facebook event page.

Porath's 384-page hardcover book, which was published in late October, features profiles of 100 women from throughout history and around the world. It retails for $26.99.

Described in a news release as an "entertaining mix of biography, imagery, and humor written in a fresh, young, and riotous voice and illustrated in a contemporary animation style," the book tells the stories of  women from different backgrounds and cultures.

Porath developed the profiles from both historical and fantastical realms, including real life, literature, mythology, and folklore.

Among the highlights are a princess-cum-pirate in fifth century Denmark, a rebel preacher in 1630s Boston, an early 17th century queen of Angola who fought a tribe of cannibals and drove Portuguese invaders from her county and a teen mom who overcame polio to become an Olympic gold medalist.

Porath, who worked as an animator on films "How to Train Your Dragon 2" and "Kung Fu Panda 2," lives in Los Angeles and also is the creator of the Rejected Princesses blog.
