NORWOOD PARK — A man tried to lure a Resurrection College Prep High School student into his car as she made her way to class Thursday morning, police and school officials said.

Around 8 a.m., the girl, 16, was parking her car near the school in the 7500 block of West Everell Avenue when the man pulled up next to her in an SUV and told her to "come to his car," according to a police alert.

The girl got back into her car and locked her doors, until the man drove away eastbound toward Harlem Avenue, police said.

School officials will take the incident as an opportunity to remind students to "walk in pairs, be alert and stay in well-lit areas, especially this time of year when it starts to get dark earlier," according to Kathleen Heneghan, a spokeswoman for the school.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his late 30s or early 40s, wearing a dark blue baseball cap and dark sunglasses. He was driving a gold-colored GMC or Chevrolet Tahoe SUV with dark tinted windows and silver hubcaps.

Anyone with any information on the suspect or the incident is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
