PORTAGE PARK — Dan Galante has ended his 16-year run as head football coach at St. Patrick High School, 5900 W. Belmont Ave., according to a school announcement.

“I decided that it is in the best interest of the program that there be a change in leadership,” Galante said, according to the announcement. “As a head coach, you have to make tough decisions, and I believe now is the time for a change."

Galante will "continue to work with the Saint Patrick Admissions Team" and will stay on as a physical education teacher at the school, the announcement read.

The coach left an indelible impact on the school during his 16 seasons leading the team, according to athletic director Brian Glorioso.

“Dan’s success on the football field helped reverse the fortunes of program, but that’s not the only thing he’ll be remembered for,” Glorioso said. “The connections he made with our kids has led them to success both on and off the field, and those lessons will never be forgotten.”
