NORWOOD PARK  — A 33-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery in Norwood Park Monday evening, police said.

Around 8 p.m., the man was walking home from a friend's house when another man walked up and asked him for a cigarette in the 7300 block of West Higgins Avenue, about a block from the Harlem Blue Line station, according to a spokesman for Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st).

The other man then took out a gun and demanded his belongings, at which point the 33-year-old grabbed the gun and tried to wrest it away, officials said. The gun discharged, shooting the man in his left hand.

The 33-year-old took himself to Presence Resurrection Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

The robber ran away, police said. He was described as a man in his 20s wearing a dark jacket and a black White Sox hat.

No one was in custody, police said.

The incident was Norwood Park's sixth shooting since Jan. 1, 2010, according to DNAinfo records.
