CHICAGO — Police are asking West Ridge residents to be on the lookout after a man attempted to lure a 7-year-old boy in the neighborhood.

At 8:05 a.m. Thursday, the boy was waiting on the corner of Whipple Street and Arthur Avenue when a man driving a red car rolled down his window and attempted to lure the boy, police said in a community alert.

The boy ran away and told a parent, who called police. The man in the red car drove away, police said.

Police have described the man as either white or Hispanic, standing about 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-11 and weighing 150 to 190 pounds with brown eyes, black hair, olive complexion, a stubble beard and glasses. His age is unknown.

His car is described as a red SUV or minivan and had a cracked front bumper, police said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 312-744-8200.
