CHICAGO — On Veterans Day Friday, The Shedd Aquarium will be free to all active and retired military members, who will also be able to check out a garden created in their honor.

Veterans will get a free "Shedd pass" to the aquarium that allows access to many of its exhibits, including "Amazon Rising" and "Waters of the World," the Shedd said in a news release. For $9, veterans can get an upgraded pass, good for all exhibits at the aquarium on Friday.

The Shedd also has unveiled a Veteran's Garden on its north lawn, the museum said in a statement. Planted by veterans and Gold Star mothers, the garden planted 30,000 bulbs in the design of ribbons honoring the military.

The museum is looking for volunteer gardeners to remove the annuals planted in the tribute garden on Nov. 18. Volunteers should meet at the Man With Fish statue at 9 a.m. or call 312-692-3139 with questions.
