COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Grand Crossing man fired a gun off his porch in a Facebook Live video last week to celebrate the Cubs' World Series win, prosecutors said.

Police were able to use that video to track down 21-year-old Johnny Hughes, who was arrested Tuesday with 50 bullets and $3,000 cash, court records show.

According to prosecutors, officers on Nov. 2 received 17 different calls about shots fired in the 7800 block of South Ingleside Avenue. An arrest report estimates Hughes fired a gun seven or eight times.

Using the Facebook Live video, police were able to obtain a search warrant for Hughes' home, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

There, officers recovered Xanax, several boxes of ammunition and a bundle of cash, according to court records. The gun was not recovered.

Hughes, of the 7800 block of South Ingleside Avenue, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

He has previous convictions for retail theft, possession of ammunition and obstructing identification, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Hughes identified himself in still photos taken from the Facebook Live video.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Wednesday set bail at $100,000.
