Anti-Trump Protesters Tear Down Trump Tower Sign In Chicago (VIDEO)

By David Matthews | November 10, 2016 10:57am

DOWNTOWN — Wednesday's mostly peaceful Donald Trump protests escalated quickly when hordes of demonstrators clashed with police during a break-in attempt at Trump Tower.

For hours police successfully diverted the protesters away from the Trump International Hotel & Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., but by late Wednesday the crowd finally made its way to the tower's loading dock off Lower Kinzie Street.

The protesters ripped a Trump sign off a wall, provoking Trump doormen who tried to stop them. The doormen retreated inside the tower before police arrived. Some protesters threw traffic cones and beer cans at the police officers before leaving.

The protesters then made their way to the riverfront, where they tore down a barricade and ran up to the tower. Police quickly turned the crowd around and put at least one protester in handcuffs.

Police said five people were arrested during the protests, including two for trespassing.

Previously, the protesters confronted two Donald Trump supporters outside Harry Caray's, 33 W. Kinzie St.

DNAinfo captured all three incidents live on Facebook. The confrontations begin at about the 34-minute mark in the video below.
