PORTAGE PARK — For the second time in less than a week, Chicagoans will wake up to historic news Wednesday, no matter what happens.
That's why Joe Angelastri, the owner of City Newsstand, 4018 N. Cicero Ave., is ordering thousands of copies of the Tribune and Sun-Times so people can capture a piece of it.
"Everyone forgets, but there's going to be a sudden shift in attention from how bitter this election was, to how historic it was," Angelastri said.
The store will have 1,500 issues of each paper in stock Wednesday morning, Agelastri said. They'll also have plenty of copies of RedEye and Hoy, employees said, although they couldn't confirm the exact number.
Meanwhile, Angelastri added, the store is still sitting on hundreds of copies of newspapers printed last Thursday, the day after the Cubs won the World Series.
The store owes its glut of papers to a late delivery of extra Tribunes on Friday, when deliverers dropped off a thousand copies that had sat idle at South Side stores.
"Brought all back, no one wanted them," read a hand-written note on top of the stack of papers.
The World Series outcome led to City Newsstand's "busiest weekend ever," Angelastri said.
"We hadn't seen anything like that since [Barack] Obama's election in 2008," he said. "So we're anticipating the same thing tomorrow, maybe."
