Deon Virges, Rushun Gaddis Killed In Chatham Shootings

CHICAGO — Shootings in Chatham left two men dead since Friday, police said.

• At 1:44 a.m. Saturday, officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 8200 block of South State Street found an unresponsive man, police said. The man, who was in his 20s, had been shot multiple times.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was identified as Rushun Markis Gaddis, 23, of the 8000 block of South Manistee, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Gaddis was pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m.

• At 11 p.m. Friday, officers responding to a call of a person shot in the first block of East 75th Street found a man who had been shot, police said. Witnesses said the man ran into a store and collapsed, police said.

The man had been shot in his throat and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was identified as Deon A. Virges, 18, of the 7500 block of South Calumet, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m.

No one was in custody.
