WEST RIDGE — Looking for a hip new restaurant with a cozy fire, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi?

The new Wendy's on Western Avenue hopes you'll give it a try.

The fast food hamburger joint opened Monday at 6324 N. Western Ave. in place of a vacant lot that once held the Nortown Theater. This summer the property was approved for a $1 million renovation

Inside, customers can choose from traditional booths and seats in addition to single chairs near a fireplace or in a more secluded section with a high counter and two-person tables.

Manager Dan Kaminski, of Uptown, said he has worked for Wendy's for 11 years, but the Western Avenue location is the first he's opened himself.

"It's been so exciting, it's awesome," he said Wednesday.

Kaminski said he hired workers primarily from the neighborhood and the group trained at the Lincolnwood Wendy's on Touhy Avenue.

In the first three days, he said customer traffic has steadily grown and in the future Kaminski hopes to partner with community groups and local schools for Wendy's-sponsored events that gives back a portion of the event's proceeds.

Wendy's will be open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, with its two-lane drive-thru remaining open until 2 a.m.
