CHATHAM — A pink-and-white-themed tea party for girls ages 3-10 will be held from 5:30-7 Saturday at 5 Loaves Eatery, 405 E. 75th St.

Chatham native Samaiyah Muhammad-Wright is hosting the event, and each $25 ticket includes light snacks, drinks, a photo booth, door prizes and activities. Parents are welcome to dress up and participate, and boys are welcome. More Than Cheesecake and Brown Sugar Bakery will provide dessert.

To reserve a spot, contact Muhammad-Wright at poeticwoman79@gmail.com or call at 773-816-9967.

Muhammad-Wright said she wanted to organize and host this tea party because she had never heard of one on the South Side.

"This is a tea party with a twist," she said. "We'll talk about who they are and their dreams."

She just published her first children's book, "Amenia's Pink Polka Dotted Rain Boots" this year. She will do a book reading and have autographed copies for sale.

The takeaway message for the children is patience, she said. It's about a little girl who wants to wear her favorite rain boots, but she has to wait for it to rain.

The inspiration to write the book came one day while working at the Art Institute.

"One day a cute little brown girl with afro puffs and wearing pink came in with her mom and dad," Muhammad-Wright said.

The girl's hairstyle stood out to her, and then later she spotted some polka-dotted boots at the store.

She said she had never even thought of writing a book before that day. Now she's already planning her second.

"Amenia's Pink Polka Dotted Rain Boots" is available on Amazon.com.
