CHICAGO — Call it Wrigley Field East.

Progressive Field in Cleveland was so full of Cubs fans Wednesday, the cheers were at times deafening as the Cubs built a lead and then won the World Series Wednesday night.

After the game, TV broadcasters were impressed with how many Cubs fans had taken over the stadium. Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in an interview with Fox32 that it looked like two precincts full of fans remained in the park to celebrate.

"They got a chance to see history being made," he said.

Two Chicago lawyers who work in the Loop scored tickets to the decisive championship game. They were among the hordes of Cubs fans who made the trek hoping to catch a glimpse of history, along with famous fans like Eddie Vedder and Bonnie Hunt.

Half of one nosebleed section was clad in Cubbie blue, the lawyers, Stephanie Dodge and Laurie Holmes, said during the game.

There are so many Cubs fans, "it's almost like being at home ... almost," Dodge said in a text message.

Other fans said about a third of the fans at the stadium were cheering as Chicago won its first World Series in 108 years. Cubs fans could even be seen sitting in the front row behind home plate.

When catcher David Ross hit a solo home run to give the Cubs a 6-3 lead, Cubs fans could be heard cheering loudly in the stands.

Holmes said she was depressed after the Cubs fell to 3-1 in the series, but "decided I couldn't give up on them."

'So I got tix to Sunday's game, and when they won two (to force Game 7) I knew I had to be here," she said.

With the Cubs up late in the game Wednesday, it's possible Indians fans were irked by all the Chicagoans invading their stadium.

"The momentum of the game keeps going back and forth.  We jump up and cheer ... and then they do. It's killing me!!" Dodge said.

Later, she said, "Cubs fan are outcheering Indians fans up here in the nosebleeds!"

The scene at Progressive Field was similar Tuesday night.
