COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Minnesota man has been charged with breaking a stranger's jaw on a dare after Sunday night's Cubs win.

Kyle Simula, 29, had been drinking and watching the World Series game with friends when someone dared Simula to punch a stranger about 12:30 a.m. Monday in the first block of West Hubbard Street, police and prosecutors said.

Simula clocked a 23-year-old — chipping the man's teeth and breaking his jaw in two places, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

The victim needed jaw surgery and required metal plates to hold his jaw in place, prosecutors said.

"My friends bet me that I wouldn't hit that guy," Simula told police, according to an arrest report. "I don't even know him. I don't know why I did it."

According to prosecutors, Simula has prior drug convictions in Minnesota. He now is charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Wednesday ordered Simula held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
