CITY HALL — If you plan to park at either of Chicago's airports before leaving on a jet plane, be prepared to pay more.

Under a measure introduced by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the cost to park for 24 hours in any lot at O'Hare Airport will rise between 20 percent and 38 percent, according to the measure.

The cost to stash your car at some of the airport's remote lots would also rise, according to the measure.

At Midway Airport, it will cost 7 percent more to park in the daily parking lot and nearly 30 percent more in the hourly lot, according to the measure. The cost to park in Midway's overflow lot will more than double to $11.50 per day, according to the measure.

The additional funds will be used cover airport operations and to finance the continuing expansion of the airport, which has drawn more than a million complaints this year about jet noise in city neighborhoods around O'Hare.

The hike means that the amount of taxes the city collects the fee for every parked car will also rise.
