By Kelly Bauer | November 1, 2016 2:51pm

CHICAGO — A 3-year-old who died on the Far South Side on Monday was killed in a homicide, officials said.

At 8:32 a.m. Monday, the toddler was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The boy had visible signs of injury on his body, police said.

The boy was identified as Tayveon Thomas, of the 12200 block of South Green Street, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. He was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. Monday.

Autopsy information released Tuesday showed Thomas died of multiple injuries and child abuse in a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

The Department of Children and Family Services was investigating the boy's parents for allegations of abuse, a spokeswoman said, and the allegation was pending. The department had no prior contact with Thomas' family.

A death investigation was pending, police said.
