CHICAGO — Martell Turner, 25, was shot to death in Auburn Gresham early Saturday, officials said.

At 12:04 a.m., the man was sitting in a car in the 1200 block of West 79th Street when a man walked up to him and fired shots, police said.

The man was hit in his chest and abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Turner, of the 7900 block of South Throop Street, was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was affiliated with a gang, police sources said.

On GoFundMe, where people are trying to raise money to help pay for Turner's funeral, a family friend described him as a "loving fiance, father, son, brother, cousin, friend."

"Martell has always been a lover, and [he] never deserved such a death," the GoFundMe organizer wrote on Facebook. "But from this day forward we pray that we can come together in unity with love and compassion to help support the beloved family he leaves behind."

No one was in custody.
