THE LOOP — A DePaul University student was "fondled inappropriately" while walking through the Loop early Friday, school officials said.

The student was walking north on State Street near Van Buren Street at about 2:30 a.m. Friday with a man when the man pulled her toward a building and "fondled her inappropriately," according to a campus alert sent Friday afternoon.

The student was able to "fend off the attack and flee," the alert said.

The alert did not say whether the student knew her attacker or not.

The crime occurred near the University Center, a residential high-rise at 525 S. State St. that houses students attending DePaul and other local universities.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call DePaul or Chicago police. Spokespersons for police and DePaul did not immediately return messages.
