Attention, Cubs fans: If the Lincoln Park Zoo's adorable pair of red panda cubs haven't yet won your hearts, they're about to.

In a highly unscientific procedure, by zoo standards, but highly effective for inspiring confidence in the Cubs in their World Series with the Cleveland Indians starting Tuesday night, the red panda cubs Waveland and Sheffield picked the Cubs over the Tribe.

LINCOLN PARK — Attention, Cubs fans: If the Lincoln Park Zoo's adorable pair of red panda cubs haven't yet won your hearts, they're about to.

In a highly unscientific procedure, by zoo standards, but highly effective for inspiring confidence in the Cubs in their World Series with the Cleveland Indians starting Tuesday night, the red panda cubs Waveland and Sheffield picked the Cubs over the Tribe.

Zookeepers placed boxes bearing the Cubs' and Indians' logos in the red panda exhibit Tuesday, and guided by their father, appropriately named Phoenix, Waveland and Sheffield picked the Cubs' box.

According to the zoo, they were "cheering on (and chewing on) the Chicago Cubs!"

Waveland and Sheffield made their formal debut at the zoo last weekend during Fall Fest festivities. Born June 24, they've followed in the footsteps of last year's red panda littler consisting of Clark and Addison, who've since gone on their own at the San Diego Zoo and the Northeastern Wisconsin Zoo.

A Cubs fan can only hope the zoo doesn't lose this year's pair to Las Vegas as sports prognosticators.

The vitality of the zoo's breeding efforts is proof of the effectiveness of the Red Panda Species Survival Plan intended to revive the endangered species.
