CHICAGO — A recently released photo from Chicago History Museum shows the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers playing in the 1945 World Series at Wrigley Field — the last Fall Classic at the Friendly Confines.
The black-and-white photo shows Cubs on the basepaths, including Stan Hack rounding second base and Bill Schuster heading to home plate.

The first three games of the series were played at Detroit's Briggs Stadium, with the Cubs winning two of them, while the final four games were all at Wrigley Field. The Cubs lost Games 4 and 5, won Game 6 but lost the decisive Game 7 9-3.
It's the last time the Cubs have been in the World Series, but they will return to the Fall Classic on Tuesday after they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers (in 1945, they were still the Brooklyn Dodgers) in the National League Championship Series.
The Cubs in the 1945 World Series were led by Lane Tech graduate Phil Cavarretta, who had 11 hits and batted .423, and Hack, who batted .367. Schuster played in two games and scored one run.
Hank Borowy started three of the World Series games, and pitched in four of them, finishing the series with a 2-2 record. He was the losing pitcher in Game 7 at Wrigley.
