CHICAGO — Police have charged a man who they said started a fire at a Belmont Cragin church early Monday morning.

Raymond Luna, 28, of the 2100 block of North Lorel Avenue, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated arson, police said.

At 12:14 a.m. Monday, officers responded to call of a burglary in progress and found Luna getting out of a window and saw smoke rising from St. Genevieve Church, 4835 W. Altgeld St., said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The Chicago Fire Department was called and the fire was extinguished with minor damage to the building, Amezaga said.

Luna was arrested at the scene after police saw him exiting the church through a rear window, police said.
