WICKER PARK — At the Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues six corners intersection, a small army of police officers were ready for big crowds that never materialized on Saturday after the Cubs beat the Dodgers and advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1945.
"We are prepared, just in case," one beat officer said.

When the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015, fans shut down Wicker Park's main intersection.
But on Saturday, there were only sporadic honks from passing cars, a lone dinosaur wearing an Ernie Banks jersey and fans trickling out of sports bars in small groups.
At The Tankard, 1635 N. Milwaukee Ave., fans embraced and sang "Go Cubs, Go" shortly after the win.
Madeline Figueroa, a 52-year-old Lakeview resident, was sitting with family and friends.
"Cubs fan all my life. I've believed in these kids from the very beginning. It's Chicago's turn!" Figueroa said.
Earlier in the night, the revelers sang the Seventh Inning Stretch.
