1 Injured, 3 In Custody After Police Shooting In Englewood

CHICAGO — One man was injured and three men are in custody after a police shooting incident in Englewood on Sunday morning, police said.

At 9:58 a.m., officers approached a vehicle with stolen license plates to conduct a traffic stop in the 300 block of West 59th Place when three men exited the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

One of the men confronted an officer with a weapon during the pursuit, prompting the officer to shoot him, striking him multiple times, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. The extent of the man's injuries was not immediately known.

The officers did not sustain injuries during the incident, police said. Three men are in custody and two weapons were recovered from the scene, police said.

Police said a comprehensive use of force investigation is underway by the Independent Police Review Authority.
