People At Construction Sites For North Side Homes Targeted In Robberies

CHICAGO — People at construction sites on the North Side are being targeted in a string of armed robberies, police said.

People have been robbed at gunpoint in Wicker Park and North Center three times since the start of October, according to a Chicago Police community alert.

The robberies occurred:

• 9:25 a.m. Oct. 7 in the 1400 block of North Oakley Boulevard

• 10 a.m. Oct. 7 in the 3900 block of North Claremont Avenue

• 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of North Oakley Boulevard

The thief was described as a white or black Hispanic man who was 26-30 years old, 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-8 and weighed 150-170 pounds, police said. He had a stocky build and wore a dark blue jacket or hooded sweatshirt that said "CHICAGO" and blue jeans.

During one of the robberies, a second person was seen running away, police said.
