Cubs Fans Are Taking Over The South Side, Facebook Data Shows

By Tanveer Ali | October 18, 2016 11:56am

CHICAGO — South Siders, North Siders and West Siders alike are all on the Cubs bandwagon.

Chicago Cubs fans outnumber White Sox fans in all but five of the city's ZIP codes, based on analysis through Facebook's ads generator.

Two years ago, DNAinfo did a similar analysis showing a split in the city along Roosevelt Road.

In 2014, a little more than 10 percent of Chicago Facebook users professed liking the Cubs. That number rose just 2.5 percent in two years, but spread itself across the city.

Even 60643, home to Morgan Park's Cubs-hating bar McNally's has more Cubs fans than Sox fans, according to Facebook.

The Cubs' improvement might have something to do with it. After losing 89 games in 2014, the Cubs have made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons and are currently in a battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League pennant.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
