Most Violent Shooting Of 2016: 1 Dead, 6 Wounded In Drive-by, Police Say

CHICAGO — One person was killed and six wounded during a single shooting in Garfield Park on Friday night, police said, making it the most violent shooting of 2016 so far.

At 8:18 p.m., a group of people were standing together outside in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue when a black car drove past and someone inside the car fired shots, police said.

Jeffrey Brinson, 32, of the 5100 block of West North Avenue, was hit multiple times and was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 34-year-old man was hit in his left leg and was in critical condition, police said. A 26-year-old man was hit in his right arm and was in good condition. A 27-year-old man was hit in his left arm and was in good condition. They took themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A 31-year-old man was hit in his left arm and a 22-year-old woman was hit in her right foot, police said. They were taken to Stroger Hospital and were in good condition.

A 21-year-old woman had her faced grazed by a bullet and was treated at the scene, police said.

No one was in custody.
