CHICAGO —  Following a successful Lincoln Park Greek Fest held over the summer, St. George Greek Orthodox Church made a round of donations Wednesday to two Lincoln Park non-profit organizations.

Parish priest the Rev. Chrysanthos Kerkeres, parish council president James Metropolis and Lincoln Park Greek Fest chairperson Mary Diamantakos hand-delivered checks totaling $2,500 to Juvenile Protective Association and the Lester Rosalie Anixter Center.

The proceeds came from the 39th annual Lincoln Park Greek Fest, a three-day community fundraising event that took place during the first weekend of June at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The festival featured Greek dishes, kid-friendly activities and live music and dance performances.

“We have decided to begin sharing some of the blessings we have received from our yearly Lincoln Park Greek Festival,” said Kerkeres. “Looking into the mission statements of [these two] organizations, we witnessed signs of the values we believe best aligned with those of the parish.”

Juvenile Protective Association, whose mission is "to improve the social and emotional well-being and functioning of vulnerable children," provides therapeutic counseling services to at-risk youth and families. Anixter Center provides a broad range of programs for those who have physical, developmental, cognitive, psychiatric or sensory disabilities.

The parish representatives each expressed hope that this year’s contributions would be the first of many more to come.
