CHICAGO — The James Beard Awards will stay in Chicago for at least another five years, according to the Mayor's Office.
The awards, which honor the world's best chefs and restaurants, had planned to stay in Chicago for three years, leaving after 2017, according to a news release from the Mayor's Office. The event found "overwhelming success" in Chicago, though, and will now stay through 2021.
The 2015 ceremony in Chicago was the first time the awards show was held outside of New York City. The event, known as the "Oscars of the Food Industry," draws thousands of people to the city, the Mayor's Office said.
This year, Alinea of Lincoln Park received the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant.
