SOUTH LOOP — There's a new kind of freaky Friday at Northerly Island.

The Chicago Park District will screen classic horror films each Friday night leading up to Halloween at the South Loop nature preserve, 1521 S. Linn White Drive.

The free outdoor film series includes campfires and marshmallows, as well as a costume contest and games for kids during one family-friendly screening of "Casper" (1995).

The series kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday with Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 thriller "Psycho." Here's the full schedule:

• 7 p.m. Friday: "Psycho" (R)

• 7 p.m. Oct. 21: "Poltergeist" (PG)

• 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28: "Casper" (PG)

• 8 p.m. Oct. 28: "Friday the 13th" (R)

Campfires will be lit an hour before the movies start, and the park district will provide the marshmallows. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and clothes for cool weather. All screenings will be outside near the park's visitor center.
