BUCKTOWN — Thieves snatched two bags from a 53-year-old nanny pushing a sleepy toddler in a stroller in Bucktown Thursday morning, making off with the little girl's half-eaten lunch and a sippy cup.

The nanny was pushing a 2-year-old in the stroller about 10:45 a.m. Thursday near Ehrler Park in the 1800 block of North Wilmot Avenue when two men snatched items and ran off, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The toddler's mother, a Bucktown woman, called police, who came out and interviewed the nanny with the help of a Polish translator.

The mother said her 2-year-old daughter was in the stroller being pushed by her nanny when two men came from behind and grabbed the bags hanging from the stroller.

"I would never think this would happen in the middle of the day," the mom said.

She also notified other Bucktown residents via social media.

"My nanny got robbed by Ehrler Park on Wilmot. If anyone finds a leopard print lunch bag and purple toys 'r' us small tote dumped on a street/sidewalk, let me know," the mom posted on a neighborhood Facebook page.

Swiped was a Polish language book borrowed from a suburban library, keys, a soft drink, the sippy cup, the nanny's lunch and the remainder of the toddler's lunch.

The family now needs to change their locks, the mom said.

Chrissy Fosco, a Bucktown resident, said she was frustrated after hearing about the crime.

"Seriously, this is getting ridiculous! There's tons of babies and kids there every day. I am so fed up with and disgusted by these predators terrorizing our neighborhood!" Fosco said.

The thieves were driving a silver car, according to the mom. Police were unable to confirm other details about the car. The men appeared to be in their 30s, police said.
