CHICAGO — Kewon Vilella, 22, was killed in a West Garfield Park shooting Sunday night, according to police.
At 7:55 p.m., Vilella was on a front porch in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue when shots rang out, said Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. Officers found Vilella unresponsive at the scene, Lemmon said.
Vilella had been struck in his chest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Lemmon said.
Vilella, of the 7500 block of South Wood Street, was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound in his chest in a homicide.
The man was a documented gang member, according to police.
No arrests have been made.
