Two Hospitalized After Loop High-Rise Fire, Officials Say

DOWNTOWN — Two people were sent to hospitals on life support Monday afternoon following a garbage fire in a Loop high-rise, firefighters said. 

The fire department reported the fire at 2:42 p.m. Monday at 618 S. Wabash Ave. The garbage fire started on the seventh floor of the eight-story building, firefighters said. 

One person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on basic life support and another was taken to Mercy Hospital on advanced life support, the firefighters said. Fire department spokesmen could not immediately provide the victims' conditions but said they were "stable."
