Martell Rhodes, 30, Dies After West Garfield Park Shooting: Police

CHICAGO — A shooting in Garfield Park left a 30-year-old man critically wounded Saturday afternoon, police said. He later died.

At 1:35 p.m., the man was outside in the 3800 block of West Huron Street when someone in a dark-colored car fired shots, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in his stomach and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Tannehill said.

Martell Rhodes, of the 4900 block of West Wrightwood Avenue, was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

No one was in custody.
