CANARYVILLE — Public safety is the top concern in the 11th Ward.

That's according to Ald. Patrick D. Thompson, who hosted a community meeting at St. Gabriel this week and gave neighborhood folks a glimpse at how he's invested in keeping people safe over the last three months.

"We've made a lot of investments," Thompson said.

Here's a look at some of them:

Stop Signs

To slow down speeding traffic and reduce accidents, the 11th Ward has installed a new stop sign at 31st and Lowe.

There's another one near the viaduct at 26th and Stewart streets.

Speed Humps

In another bid to reduce cars rolling through neighborhoods at dangerous speeds, the city has install speed humps along several streets. You'll find them at:

• 15th Street, from Morgan to Aberdeen

• 32nd Place, from Lituanica to Morgan

• 36th Street, from Lituanica to Sangamon

• 37th Street, from Lituanica to Sangamon

• Poplar Avenue, next to McGuane Park

Cameras

On streets across the 11th Ward, the city has installed subtle police cameras to deter crime.

"They almost look like a cell phone tower, but they are working," Thompson said. "We work very closely with the police to determine where are the areas that we should put these cameras."

Here's where you'll find some of them:

• 43rd and Wallace

• Root and Union

• 14th and Union

• 33rd and Wells

• 36th and Lituanica

• Canaryville Library
