AUBURN GRESHAM —  Members of Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church will honor the city's first responders Sunday.

The Rev. Oscar T. Moses, pastor of the South Side church, said he wants firefighters, healthcare providers and police to know that the church is standing "spiritually strong" in support and prayer.

"We the members of the faith community must be moved to action," he said.

At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the church, 7848 S. Normal Ave., will hold a special service with the title "Honoring the Red, White and Blue: We're Here for You." The community is invited along with local public servants, Moses said.

Everyone is encouraged to wear red, white and blue. The honorees will be in uniform.

"As I read the paper and watch the news I see firemen, healthcare providers and law enforcement officers in situations that place their very lives at risk, each and every day in neighborhoods across Chicago, as well as the nation," Moses said. "I can’t image what our society would be like without them. As a former Chicago Housing Authority Police Officer, I empathize with the nature of those called to public service."
