WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — An online dating site is being used as bait for armed robbers in Washington Heights, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Two robberies related to the scheme have taken place in the 9200 block of South Bishop Street, police said Thursday as part of a community alert.
The robberies occurred when a male victim agreed to meet a female through a social dating site. Instead, the suitor was met by three men who displayed handguns and robbed him, police said.
The robberies occurred at 1:25 a.m. Sunday and 10 p.m. Sept. 30, according to police in the Morgan Park District.
Police recommend meeting in public and in an area you are familiar with when introducing yourself to someone you've only met online. And if you fall victim to a robbery or another scheme, call 911 immediately to provide a detailed description of any people or vehicles involved.
If you have any more information about these robberies, call Area South Detectives at 312-747-8273.
