UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Buying an $8 fried chicken and waffle sandwich at Leghorn this month will help Chicago's homeless youth and gay community, thanks to a collaboration between chef Jared Van Camp and Chance the Rapper's younger brother Taylor Bennett.

The "fully stacked fried-chicken-and-Belgium-style-liege-waffle sandwich" was introduced last Sunday at the restaurant, 959 N. Western Ave., and will be on the menu though Oct. 16, according to a news release from the "socially conscious chicken shop" in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood.

Bennett, a hip hop artist and supporter of gay rights, selected Chicago-based LGBTQIA advocacy group Pride Action Tank as a beneficiary of 10 percent of the sandwich's profits.

"Chicken and waffles is one of the most iconic dishes of soul food in America, so I’m stoked to be working with Jared [Van Camp] to bring that to Leghorn in support of our fellow LGBTQIA community," Bennett said in a news release.

The sandwich is made with a hot chicken thigh housed between two of The Winchester's Belgium-style liege waffles layered with maple jalapeño butter and smoked bacon.

A fast casual, BYOB concept featuring fried chicken sandwiches by Van Camp, Leghorn opened in March 2014.
