MOUNT GREENWOOD — A suspect is being questioned by police after an armed robbery Tuesday night at a 7-Eleven Store in Mount Greenwood, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The convenience store at 10301 S. Sawyer Ave. was robbed by two armed men around 7:45 p.m. The pair demanded money, said a police spokesman about two hours after the incident. Police said one suspect was being questioned after the robbery.

Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) was quick to praise the police, posting a Facebook update that included a photo that read, "I [heart] Chicago police."

"The employees are OK, but the bad guys are in for a long night at Area South/Cook County Jail. On behalf of our community, a big thank you to the men and women of the 22nd District," O'Shea's Facebook post read.

Prior to the update, O'Shea said in an interview that the robbers were caught within minutes about a mile away in the 10300 block of South Oakley Avenue in Beverly. He hoped the store might provide surveillance video evidence to help with the investigation.

"It was great police work," O'Shea said.
