CHICAGO — If your allergies are acting up, this might be why: It's super moldy outside.

A mold count of more than 100,000 on Thursday means people with allergies should stay indoors, according to information from Dr. Joseph Leija, an allergist at Loyola University Health System. He measured a mold count of more than 70,000 on Wednesday.

Leija called for a dangerous air quality alert due to Thursday's high amount of mold, the third time he's done that this year, according to a Loyola news release. Leija takes pollen samples every day from April to October.

Officially, Thursday's air quality in Chicago was listed as "moderate," meaning people who are unusually sensitive should think about not being outside for a long time or exerting themselves heavily while outside, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The air quality is expected to improve for Friday.
